Japanese youth lost their minds. Takaichi is a dumpster fire on policy front but young Japanese who doesn’t understand what she stand for is just cheering for her.
* She has no interests in containing skyrocketing budget deficits and public debts. She is “spend spend spend “ mode. That debt bomb will blow up one day.
* Japan is currently entering high inflation period thanks to the aftermath of Abenomics and Reiwa Rice Crisis. You know what happens if you print money while in high inflation.
* She is not even tackling inflation properly. She abolished the measures implemented by Ishiba to contain rice price and combat LDP-farmer cartel. The cartel is back in full force and rice price hitting record high again.
* Her aggressive foreign policy is designed to make geopolitical crisis to maximum, so that Japanese electorate is tricked into abolishing 1948 pacifist policy.
* Her ultimate goal is the revival of militarist pre-war Japan. Who will die in those wars? Young people.
She is just Lettuce Liz with good PR and young people with limited real life experience are being tricked into voting for her.
Ngl I’m high key curious what would happen if she stayed in power for a while. I don’t think she will because Japanese PMs can rotate in the blink of an eye but it would be very interesting to see how low Japan’s economy, foreign policy, and currency can go. Perhaps they’ll join the United States and Hungary in serving as a cautionary tale of blind right-wing populism to the rest of the democratic world.
