SS: A new report by the public policy analysis firm México Evalúa found that, in the last 10 years, disappearances have increased more than 200%. This surge in disappearances owes much to the increasing takeover of vast swathes of the country by criminal groups, and the growing diversification of their criminal activity. The growing activity that will typically disappear a person includes forced recruitment, gang wars where bodies are typically disposed of in private, organ trafficking, sex and human trafficking and migrant smuggling.
The Mexican government for their part appears to be behind the ball, such as their National Search Commission designed to tackle the issue of disappearances. But poor funding and political infighting has damaged the reputation of the agency. With [Claudia Sheinbaum](https://www.theguardian.com/world/claudia-sheinbaum) also being dismissive of the Mexico Evalua report, saying the government will release their own report.
