President Trump encouraged Latin American leaders to band together to combat violent cartels as his administration looks to demonstrate it is still committed to sharpening U.S. foreign policy focus on the Western Hemisphere, even as it deals with five-alarm crises around the globe.

The gathering, which the White House called the "Shield of the Americas" summit, came just two months after Trump ordered an audacious U.S. military operation to capture Venezuela's then-president, Nicolás Maduro, and whisk him and his wife to the United States to face drug conspiracy charges.

  1. Probably the biggest LATAM reunion of Presidents since United Nations summits

The summit about “Shield of Americas” looks a PR stunt.

But if we go deeper, I think Trump is reaching for how much support he has for the future incursion in Cuba/Nicaragua

Cuba is pretty much confirmed to be this year. Nicaragua is probably will be left for 2027

honestly its wild to see trump suddenly care about latin america when his whole 2016 campaign was about building a wall to keep them out.

I don’t understand the point of this even from a manbaby point of view, doesn’t the OAS already exist??

And the OAS isn’t some anti-Washington organisation that is built just for criticising it, it’s literally stood by Washington for most of its history, especially during the missile crisis of 1962 and the embargo on Cuba since then.

  6. Aren’t we at war in Iran? Wtf are we shielding the Americas from if not our own reckless foreign policy?
