Britain’s House of Lords voted to end its hereditary peerages. The centuries-old tradition, which allowed members with inherited titles to sit and vote in the upper house of parliament, had been mostly abolished in 1999 under a previous Labour government. The bill ends a long tussle to remove the remaining 92 hereditary peers; some will be granted life peerages instead.
