The Arab allies have always been the most pragmatic about Iran even though it has been their enemy for generations.

They always knew this would happen. That’s why they tried so hard to hold Trump back. And in the end he threw them all aside for his own ego and Benjamin Netanyahu’s flagging poll numbers.

Americans will never understand how much Trump has damaged every single international relationship their country has. They’ll understand how much they have hurt the rest of the world just for their own incredibly narrow and half-baked geopolitical calculations.

The only reason other world leaders aren’t voicing this anger is because they know Trump still has three years left in office and will do anything he wants to any country in the world that stands up to him.

From a realpolitik standpoint, if the US can’t reopen the strait by force then it has officially lost it’s authority over the region to Iran, since the gulf states can’t survive it closed without massive unrest. Qatar is simply hedging it’s bets. The Gulf-states only aligned with the US and began warming ties to Israel with the understanding that the US would protect them from Iran. Likewise, the 1973 oil crisis was led through OPEC by Saudi Arabia. These are allies Israel can’t afford to lose either. Even if OPEC has a lot less sway than it used to. Iran has given a condition for re-opening the strait of Hormuz to certain ships as being expelling US and Israeli ambassadors.

If Trump TACOs then it may minimize damage to the US and global oil markets but will almost certainly backfire on Israel. There would be no reason that Iraq and potentially all the gulf states don’t align with Iran in the future on this issue. I see absolutely no chance the Gulf States fight Iran on the US’s behalf so it’s either boots on the ground or realign with Iran against Israel.

The administration simply doesn’t understand that if you choose to fight a war you must win, or risk losing everything. They can’t just force a white peace and call it victory, that’s not how it works.

  3. >”We have warned for many years, that escalation left unchecked will lead to catastrophic results. We’re at that moment where we are seeing those catastrophic results across the region. You can put a map of the region in front of you and you’ll not be able to find a single point and space where escalation is not happening.

    >”This is exactly what we have been saying from Day 1. This is the biggest ‘I told you so’ in the history of I told you so’s in the world. We have said from Day 1, left unchecked, the escalation that started in 2023, would lead to a regional war.

    >”What we are seeing right now is a regional war, that can still be contained. But the trajectory we are going through right now is a very dangerous trajectory for the region and we keep warning that again, this left unchecked and conflict moved from negotiations rooms to battlefields will lead to even more catastrophic results for the people in the region.”

Here’s Qatar Day 1 statement btw

    >Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs: On 7 October 2023 the Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs published a statement stating that it “expresses its deep concern over the developments in [the] Gaza Strip and calls on all parties to de-escalate, and exercise maximum restraint” and that “the Ministry of Foreign Affairs holds Israel solely responsible for the ongoing escalation due to its ongoing violations of the rights of the Palestinian people, the latest of which was the repeated incursions into Al-Aqsa Mosque under the protection of the Israeli police”.
The statement also said that the ministry stressed “the need for the international community to act urgently to compel Israel to stop its flagrant violations of international law, respect the resolutions of international legitimacy and the historical rights of the Palestinian people, and to prevent these events from being used as a pretext to ignite a new asymmetric war against Palestinian civilians in Gaza”.

  4. And here I worried that giving Trump the luxury jet would make him pay too *much* attention to Qatar.

  5. OP has thousands of posts, and hides their history. Probably just a propaganda account
