Canada and the Nordic countries have agreed to strengthen Arctic security cooperation to counter Russia and resist external pressures on Greenland. Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney highlighted Russia as the main physical threat in the region and welcomed NATO’s Arctic Sentry mission. The joint plan includes boosting defense industrial capacity, developing interoperable technologies, and coordinating procurement beyond heavy reliance on the United States. Nordic leaders emphasized practical collaboration among “middle powers” without creating new institutions, including potential partnerships with Australia, Japan, and South Korea. They also reaffirmed support for Greenland and Denmark’s sovereignty, criticizing past US interest in the island as unacceptable.
