Spain’s conservative People’s Party won a regional election in Castile and León, its third victory in three months, strengthening the opposition’s claim that the government is losing ground. The party secured 33 seats in the 82-member regional legislature, while the ruling Socialists of Pedro Sánchez won 30 and the far-right Vox took 14. The vote, the first since the outbreak of the Iran war, unfolded largely around domestic issues such as agriculture, migration and public services. Although Sánchez has highlighted his opposition to the conflict, the campaign focused mainly on regional concerns. The result halts recent losses for the Socialists but leaves conservatives dominant in much of Spain’s regional politics.
