The post office has been operating at a loss for almost 20 years. Of course they are running out of money, they don’t make any.

  2. Why am I not surprised?

It’s well known that sending parcels through the USPS is a nightmare, hence why FEDEX, DHL, and UPS enjoy the higher parcel traffic, on top of online stores like Amazon and Walmart having their own in-house delivery services. People buy stamps for fewer and fewer reasons as the world continues to go digital.

Mailing letters or money is a dying function of society with digital social media, means of communications, and electronic money apps/banking today.

So aside from junk mail and maybe official government or business mailings…..what’s left to bring in revenue to the postal service? It’s not the same world it was when the USPS was all there was and the predominant way to get something from A to B.

  3. USPS is pretty much the only federal consumer-facing program I’m cool with losing boatloads of money. They serve a good purpose. Try sending a regular letter to a rural area in Louisiana or Arkansas with UPS and see what it costs you. Better yet – try sending a letter to a family member stationed overseas.

Sure, they’re probably bloated as hell and could benefit from measured cost reductions.

Having to prefund retirement 30 years in advance for future employees is a major money sucker for them as well

It’s constitutionally mandated and I’m glad it’s still a thing but there’s no reason it can’t be Monday – Friday and get rid of Saturday mail delivery.

  6. Residential mail service should be twice a week, or even once a week. Other than junk, next to nothing relevant comes in the mail

  7. Honestly, we can probably move away from most mail services these days.

Except packages of things I order online and official documents like taxes, most of my mail would be better as just an email.

No need for daily mail service.
