This isn’t hurting Iran or China, it’s ONLY hurting Europe and the EU!
In July-August 1941, the US froze Japanese assets and imposed a full oil embargo, cutting off ~88% of Japan’s imports. With reserves for only 1-3 years (less in wartime), Japan rejected withdrawal from China/Indochina and launched its “Southern Operation” to seize Dutch East Indies oil fields—requiring a preemptive strike on Pearl Harbor (Dec. 7, 1941) to neutralize the US fleet.

Some of them are being killed, but some are being picked up and hidden preemptively to protect them. They wouldn’t just kill them in secret and waste an opportunity to send a message.
These are the last death throes of the oil industry who are trying to get every last cent they can before the ball drops.
