submission statement : i think it is worth discussing the fact Canadian youth have become very conservative. Liberals/Conservatives 50-50 with youth. This is similar to the America’s numbers back in 2024, but youth there have since reverted to being EXTREMELY liberal (Trump is at 18% approval with GenZ).
So why have Canadian youth maintained their conservatism? I think analyzing this will be interesting hence I’m posting it here.

Canadian youth are mad about housing and still haven’t entirely forgiven the Liberals for neglecting that issue under Trudeau
Pierre Poilievre also comes across as fairly moderate on culture war stuff, and doesn’t demonize immigrants or minorities the way the Republican Party does

25% in 2020 to 40% now. Dang.
I think a good quantity of the conservatism is what often drives in it young people: everything is fucked, so why not flip the table? Why not be angry at the establishment? Why not buy into a philosophy that blames easily-identifiable groups that you’re not part of?
We’ll see if anyone can deliver a message of actual hope.

It’s pretty simple, the liberal party exists for boomer homeowners.
Prop up those home prices forever, keep screwing the young. Elbows up even though young professionals keep leaving for the US.
So the young vote in reaction for a party that retains some credibility on cost of living.

Canadian youth spend a lot of time talking about broken social contracts and feeling completely sold out by that increasingly-nebulous cohort still referred to as Boomers. The triple whammy of 15+ years of overheated housing prices, the pandemic, and massive demographic shift, combined with an ever-more-atomized society and complete abdication of responsibility from the Liberals around supporting national identity creates a strong vacuum for the Conservatives to fill, and they have basically tailored their entire party platform to this sort of disaffected person. It’s still just one type of young person, though, and you’ll still find plenty of youth across the full spectrum of parties, as has always been the case
