i dont know if there is a solution to this. is it worth making the process for LGBT asylum more restrictive if it leads to genuine LGBT people to be rejected?
i immigrated without asylum (wealthy family that sent me to boarding school, spoke 5 languages). but assuming i needed asylum, like THE VAST MAJORITY of LGBT in the global south, how would i even prove being gay to the government when all i did was jerk off to pay gorn? i am masc presenting and everyone assumes i am straight. my family has no clue and my doctor keeps asking me about how many girls im sleeping with. to the government, if i was less fortunate, id just be another high risk muslim male looking for a loophole.
trust me, being gay in a difficult country is an extremely isolating experience where few will have the courage to be out enough to have enough evidence to prove their sexuality. when they likely have never had the chance to act on it.
something to think about. i personally am okay with a few scammers getting in if lgbt people find safety. you have no idea what being gay in MENA is like. it is hell on earth. even now that im in a safe country i am dealing with depression and severe confidence issues from my childhood.
