Honestly the most interesting part about all the debate about Japan and piracy going on in Twitter is that, not that long ago, an average internet user from Argentina, one from Russia and another from Japan would probably never have interacted with each other (unless they all spoke english and interacted in some other universal online space). Despite the World Wide Web, everybody remained largely sealed off from each other.
But now Twitter automatically translates all tweets and shows them to users all over the world. So, for example, both Japanese and Latin American/Russian Twitter users are experiencing a culture shock upon discovering that their values regarding piracy are completely opposite.

When people say that things are as bad as they could possibly be, I think they are so wrong about that. Things could be much, much worse. If insects were much larger and more carnivorous, for instance.
