Summary
The article talks about how men in the West (mainly the US) are fed up with dating and looking for traditional women abroad in countries such as Thailand, Brazil, Colombia, the Philippines and Vietnam. They post their 'couple' videos to their followers, most of which are men in similar position.
Critics say these men exploit these vulnerable women and lead to power imbalance in a relationship, but not all feel the same way. Some foreign women want a western passport, others want some financial security that these men provide. And dominating in a relationship is what these men are looking for.
Relevance for the sub:
Such trend underlies several political divisions between the left and the right, especially around gender rights and equality. These men lean towards right wing parties and contributed to right wing leaders such as Donald Trump gaining power.

I’m surprised the economist was so directly willing to call out these people for seeking domination in the relationship
More gender articles, yay!/s

These guys in 5 years, probably
Ok, if the individuals are not horrible people and treat their spouses well, isn’t this the neoliberal solution to being perpetually single? I know a lot of the actual people who do it are conservative chuds, as the article states, but in concept.
I really don’t like passport bros but we really got to stop pretending that because a woman doesn’t speak English or lives in a west she is a naive child incapable of independent thought.
Like they know what these men are looking for.
They are not being exploited (you know baring prostitution or human trafficking). They want money or a passport and if they have to pretend to fawn a westerner for it, they will. They are not stupid.
Hasn’t this been a thing for decades? Men have been going abroad to find a wife since man invented the boat.
