A quick google search shows that his research *has* been funded to the tune of 11 million euros since 2018. His research has shown promising results in mice, but transitioning to human trials is often called the “valley of death” amongst biomedical researchers because *a lot* of projects just never get the funding for this phase. It’s hard to track down a number, but it looks like this phase alone could cost *another* 30 million euros, on top of all the regulatory red tape.
Capitalism strikes again. Private investors care more about investment risk than they do about the outcome.
