    >**“I’m mainly involved in philanthropy and spiritual matters; that’s only natural at my age. I’ve set up an institute with some friends called the Institute of Hope.”** Before the parliamentary select committee on broadcasting, Vincent Bolloré had cited his faith and left it at that, officially. **“You read that I’m on the right, further to the right – no. I’m not involved in politics; I’m a Christian Democrat. I believe in democracy, in freedom, and I truly believe in Christ,”** he declared at the time.

    >The Institut de l’Espérance’s 36-page manifesto contains around a **hundred** policies – almost a political platform. The Christian-inspired think tank advocates **reducing French public spending to 49% of GDP**. This drastic cut in budgetary expenditure is coupled with an unapologetically conservative agenda: **a drastic reduction in immigration, a return to school uniforms, the raising of the flag, and even the abolition of the offence of obstructing abortion.**

    >A highly conservative ideological line

    >**This ideological line is already at work in the billionaire’s media outlets – CNews, Le Journal du Dimanche** – and notably in the publishing house Fayard, which he controls. This cultural ecosystem is accused of promoting far-right themes and figures from that same camp, such as the former presidential candidate and polemicist **Éric Zemmour**.

    >Even though he has no intention of seeking power, Vincent Bolloré is building a conservative movement to influence public opinion and win the battle of ideas. This comes in the run-up to the presidential election.
