You’re conflating two things that have absolutely nothing to do with each other.
The Soviet Union fell because technological advancement meant they couldn’t hide that their standard of living was lower than the wests anymore. And lying to the entire country about Chernobyl was the straw that broke the countries back.
How do you trust a government that would rather irradiate everyone you know than tell you the truth?
