Seoul High Court Criminal Division 12-1, Presiding Judge Lee Seung-cheol, ruled on the 7th that former Prime Minister Han Duck-soo was guilty of insurrection charges for participating in former President Yoon Suk-yeol’s unconstitutional and illegal declaration of martial law on December 3.
The court stated during the appeal trial on Han’s insurrection charges, “Former Prime Minister Han had the intent and purpose of disrupting the constitutional order.” The court also acknowledged charges that Han discussed power and water cutoffs with former Minister of the Interior and Safety Lee Sang-min and drafted a false martial law declaration after its lifting. However, it sentenced him to 15 years in prison, a reduced term from the first trial’s 23 years.

(1) Press Freedom: Former Acting President & PM Han Duck Soo sent to jail for participating in Yoon’s plot to cut off power and water media outlets, which got stopped because rank-and-file officials said “No”.
(2) “I was just following order!”: Han tried to dodge his responsibility by claiming he was just following orders of Yoon the alcoholic. He is sentenced to heavy jail sentence anyway.
3. My opinion
Colonial bureaucrat. That is the nickname given to Han by Korean media. A soulless man following the order of superiors. Sadly, he is not exception but a rule among Korean elites.
