What do the people care? They are getting their Trump Phones! Their very own direct line….to the Trump Administrations domestic surveillance apparatus. People have been turning over their information willy nilly for a long time, so at this point who gives a damn. The government is trampling our rights left right and center every single day and people will bitch on occasion on Reddit or social media, but they keep buying the products spying on them. They keep the services that sell their information hand over fist, or are so dog shit at their internal security practices that all the users important information is leaked almost daily (as if that was not their intent). Since 9/11 people have gleefully turned over more and more power to the government and tech oligarchs. I am often reminded of that quote from I think Ben Franklin, “Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety.” I think I have finally hit the point where I don’t see how we ever recover from how far we have fallen and just want me and mine to be left alone while rome burns.
