  1. doordashing mcdonalds: 30 dollars, terrible food, takes forever to arrive, so the peak instance of munchiness has already passed, cold, the doordasher likely is not equipped to do the math of being an independent contractor correctly so they are losing money and you are taking advantage of them

toast: at most 50 cents, toast with butter mogs 95% of all other foods, warm, delicious, you can dip it in soup to feel like a medieval peasant, this is what the agricultural revolution was for

  2. im only awake because i may have accidentally gotten my gf hooked on civ 5 and she’s been playing for 12 hours and she’s been close to wrapping it up for 3 hours

  3. >“Perhaps not gloating on the corpse of [the Soviet Union’s] society and then subjecting it to rapacious global markets might have helped prevent the rise of Putin’s fascist regime”

There’s this strange line of reasoning that we have to coddle Russia and cater to its feelings. Russia fucking lost. It is a country of losers. We should not facilitate a fantasy wherein the Soviet Union was not a monstrous empire that deserved destruction at any price like Nazi Germany did.

Loser countries can reform into winners, but it requires accepting their loss.

  4. How do you guys read the DT so fast? I’m still on a DT from 3 months ago 😓

  6. Guess the sub:

    > There are other forms of ethical imperialism, like when the US develops and maintains the multilateral organizations required to directly or indirectly interfere with another country’s internal affairs when they’re violating international norms. For example, our sanction tools, which may or may not be valuable in preventing or ending criminal activity at the state level, are fundamentally coercive. Our development of those tools was an imperialist project.

  7. People confuse linguistic descriptivism as being an ideological hat there *is* no better way to speak, rather than just a statement that linguistics seeks to make an objective, value-free description of language.

It’s like how “Hitler was bad” is a normative claim rather than objective historical analysis, even if it’s an opinion most historians hold.

  11. Several DTs ago I posted about an unhinged guy in MetaNL posting about the necessity of America to annex Canada and Greenland and how people here are naive idiots that “care too much about the insecurities of middle power nationalists” for a laugh, well he actually only stopped posting there a few hours ago and the way he finally signed off was *Chef’s Kiss*

    > And I never denied that I was an imperialist. The mods just lack creativity to redefine the concept or personally benefit from a declining USA.
