Submission statement: the beginning of the end for the pro-European governing coalition. Most recall elections fail due to low turnout, in the previous local government term only 12 out of 76 succeeded and it was an increase from the previous term anyway. Large cities (Kraków is the second largest city in Poland) are KO’s strongholds. It turns out incompetence, corruption, high cost of living, and surging debt aren’t the winning formula. The national government should take note, but it won’t.
You can learn more about the referendum in a [write-up](https://www.reddit.com/r/neoliberal/comments/1tkb5v3/discussion_thread/onconaq/) by u/Poiuy2010_2011. Importantly, the city council was NOT recalled, as opposed to what the exit poll had shown. Because the electoral threshold in the council election is crazy high, it would push parties to enter coalitions. As this is not a concern, everyone and their mother will field their own candidates to gauge support.
Implications for the European policy? The number of anti-European governments in Eastern EU will grow again in 2027.
