Submission Statement: Potentially a very important development in a key Senate race. Discussion around how frankly loopy the MAGA base remains, Trump’s continued influence on the party, and potential improvements for Democratic chances to win the seat.

I’m so out of the loop. I didn’t even know that Trump was beefing with Cornyn before he did this endorsement.

I can only imagine Cornyn’s frustration tonight, that despite him having been a loyal soldier for Trump and the GOP through the last decade of stupidity, Trump still destroys his political career basically on a whim. That a worthless scumbag like Ken Paxton is the one that will deliver the coup de grace has to make it all the more painful.
I’m praying to God Talarico can pull it off and break the Democrats 30 year drought of winning a statewide race in Texas, but with the potent mix of insanity and apathy that is the Texan electorate, I’m not getting my hopes up too much. Bare minimum this forces Republicans to spend a lot of money holding what should be a safe red seat in a year when they have a lot of more vulnerable seats to defend, so hopefully this’ll indirectly help Democrats in places like Michigan, Ohio, and Maine.

I genuinely don’t care that Paxton is worse than Conryn at the end of the day all gop senators debase themselves the same for trump. Paxton gives a 10 percent better chance at winning so that good that hes the person we face

While I’m happy this makes blue Texas more of a possibility, imo it’s so fucking sad that Paxton got this far. Especially because he has the backing of groups like the Christian right who supposedly believe in acting holy and all of that. They were willing to vote for this man because the president who also is objectively morally bad endorsed him.

Unless Paxton is *really* disciplined *and* Trump fixes the economy by October, Talarico will flip this.
Already, Texas is 7-8 points right of national environment for statewide races with non-Trump MAGA candidates (Ted Cruz 2024, Ken Paxton and Dan Patrick 2022). With Paxton’s new scandals since 2022, make it more like 5-6 points right of the national environment for him.
This is likely shaping up to be a D+8 or more year unless Trump fixes the economy, in which case it could be anything.
So, given all this, means Talarico will most likely win.
