    >‘**The truth is that the last time we faced La France Insoumise in a national election, we ‘folded’ them and we will defeat them again because an overwhelming majority of left-wing voters do not want this constant division of society**,’ he said on BFMTV and RMC, referring to the last European elections, from which he emerged as the leading left-wing candidate ahead of the LFI list.

    >**Raphaël Glucksmann announced last week that he was giving himself three months to formalise his candidacy for next year’s presidential election.**

    >**The French ‘want a democratic and republican left’ and ‘they also know full well that sending Jean-Luc Mélenchon through to the second round is a sure-fire way of ensuring victory for the far right’, he added.**

    >Now fully in the race, the leader of La France Insoumise (LFI) is preparing to hold his first major campaign rally next weekend in Saint-Denis, a town won by his movement in the last local elections.

    >The two are neck and neck in the various recent opinion polls.

    Submission statement:

Glucksmann has begun his media tour for the presidential election, as a pro-EU, very pro-Ukraine politician, he’s the safest candidate the center-left has to offer who’s not (not entirely) economically illiterate.

But the issue is that he’s behind in polling, according to [this poll](https://www.ifop.com/article/les-intentions-de-vote-dans-la-perspective-de-lelection-presidentielle/), he’s only at 9% of the popular vote, vs 13% for Mélenchon, and it hits harder when you look at the demographic data

**1%** voting intentions from the 18-25 demographic!

    Vs 24% for Mélenchon.

Though I feel many could switch from Glucksmann to Tondelier (Greens) and back

And Attal polling at 16% is actually quite good for the center, especially if you add Phillipe’s own 8%, it’s as good as Mélenchon

Good this be explained by the fact [he promised to ban Tiktok and not use it for campaigning](https://www.bfmtv.com/politique/elections/presidentielle/pas-besoin-d-un-influenceur-a-l-elysee-raphael-glucksmann-veut-bannir-tik-tok-et-ne-l-utilisera-pas-en-cas-de-campagne-presidentielle_AV-202605280351.html)?

French libs, how do you feel about Glucksmann? Can he prevent the nightmare blunt rotation of a Bardella v Melenchon runoff? And can he beat Bardella in the second round?

Would Attal or Phillippe be better options?

    I highly doubt he will

Mélenchon did 20+% last time and the socialists in France are highly radicalized. Basically, all of them believes Macron is “ultra liberal” and that France has been liberal for 40+ years. They will say you are a fascist (or think it and not tell it in front of you) if you have any sympathy for liberal ideas. A fascist or a liberal is the same to them.

So they wouldn’t vote for him as they think glucksmann is also a liberal just less than ultra liberal macron. The only ones voting for him are people that agree with everything melenchon says except his lack of support of Ukraine. But I am sure that if Mélenchon pays some lip Service to them by saying he was not properly understood and that Russia shouldn’t have done that and that NATO and Russia are both bad, it will be enough to convince them to vote for him.

And that’s only when you understand that glucksmann is a socialist and not a liberal to begin with. He is just not ready to leave the EU which will constraint French gouvernement ability to spend since they don’t control the central bank. This constraint and other EU rules will empede efforts to seize, tax or prevent capital flight.

They are completely delusional. Imagine if 30% of the voter base is the DSA on steroids and you have a beginning of understanding of “leftism” in France

Tl:Dr : he will go nowhere since the socialist voters are in another Galaxy and thinks communism/Marxism is a normal position, just that the bourgeoisie is after them and are the ones calling it “extreme” or whatever. Basically this is the result of letting this illiberal ideology thrive by not banning it

Edit : after writing that I questioned myself, why bother being pro EU if you are socialist, my guess would be that such socialists think the EU is a temporarily embarrassed somewhat liberal union of countries or that the EU is not so liberal and I got indoctrinated by illiberals to believe it’s very liberal. I actually don’t know so if someone could teach me
