Submission Statement: While it’s well known by now that Russian ‘active measures’ include sowing racial tension on social media platforms, it’s less well known that this is also done by the People’s Republic of China. While the government’s statement is that there is no evidence that this is state-sponsored, China has been consistently trying to exploit ethnic tensions with Chinese diaspora over the past decade, and the sharing of such content is not consistent with baitposts meant to generate attention and revenue like ragebait right-wing content like twitter.
Foreign influence operations exploiting ethnic tensions tend to be seen as Russian and there doesn’t seem to be a discussion about how other state actors might be in on this, so I believe this is relevant.
