Growing up, I thought Africa was just a shithole. We finished our food for the kids in africa, didn't waste water because the kids in Africa didn't have it, etc. Every time I saw Africa on TV it looked like a a scene out of Lion King. No buildings, just poor starved kids on dirt. There are poor places all over the world, and yet Africa is often presented to us the most.

I believe it was just a money scheme. “Oh no, look at the starving kids in Africa. For $x.xx, you can help these poor children” etc. Propaganda to get money by tugging on the heart strings of many. It wouldn’t surprise me if it extended as far as money laundering, too.
A mixture of racism and corporate charities slamming us with pictures of poor Africans so they can demand we give them money.
Why do they all want to move to the west if it is so awesome there?
Look at the difference between a holler in West Virginia vs New York City

Same is being done for India, even when we achieve something .. like Moon landing etc .. we get mocked
