As high-stakes negotiations to end the Iran war continue in Switzerland, the maritime industry’s message to the White House is clear: Don’t allow Iran to formalize its tolling racket over the Strait of Hormuz.

This is why I’m of the “just end this and annihilate them completely” camp. The waffling on the MOUs/agreements/ceasefires has got to stop. Just turn Iran into a totally worthless wasteland, take Kharg island, and call it done.
Erase Iran from the Middle Eastern picture completely.

What would incent Iran to agree to this? It’s their sole leverage – probably even more powerful than the threat of them getting a nuke, and they’ve seen that the west does not have the political will to stop them.
The only thing that really threatens the current Iranian regime would be a ground invasion or an internal uprising that displaces them. They know the former isn’t going to happen, and the latter isn’t going to occur either if it hasn’t already.
I think the only thing Iran accepts is a highly neutered Israel plus lots of cash.
This either ends with some massive concessions to the Iranians or the west finding the wherewithal to keep the strait open by force.
