Submission Statement: US foreign policy was historically a cornerstone of the global liberal order, and the Trumpian shift has imperiled many of the systems we have taken for granted. Whatever comes after Trump will have to reckon with that – and reckon with the ways that American foreign policy has shaped our elections and helped lead to Trump. As such, discussions on the future of American foreign policy are of central importance to neoliberalism.
Also, we’re all a bunch of nerds who listen to Ezra’s podcast every week, so we may as well have a dedicated place to talk about episodes. It’s a good way to have focused, in-depth discussions due to the simultaneous depth and accessibility of the material.

Ezra is fundamentally right, but I think he slightly exaggerates the extent to which “Bidenism” as a reliance on alliances has died. Similar sentiments were expressed during Trump’s first term, but Biden has indeed, in many ways, revived traditional good-neighborly relations with NATO and the EU.
