Sub Statement: Kinda in line with this sub, the people in it and how it is located in the greater progressive ecosystem.

Also arguably, this oped is exactly rephrasing; I am a liberal, not progressive or radical.

  1. Two things are true at the same time: sexuality is a fluid and often uneasy to define characteristic, just as the amount of ridiculous shit I’ve seen under the banner of queer that makes me want to gatekeep LGBT matters has accelerated to an absurd level. I’ve on multiple occasions heard “I’m straight but queer”. Unless you’re trans, that doesn’t even make sense.

That being side, I have an issue with the author here writing a book about “the biblical case for same-sex relations”. Irrespective of how actually homophobic the Bible is, I find any attempt to use religion to support or justify my sexuality reprehensible. It is simply a scientific and biological matter for me. Would you do this for anything else?

People who care too much about the distinction between queer and gay are fundamentally pedantic; they are also one stone throw away from saying “LGB rights“ without regard to trans rights.

  3. This is just biphobia and queerphobia disguised as “pushing back against activists” by someone who thinks being gay is just embracing the suburbs but with a husband rather than a wife.

Who cares that most bisexual or pansexual people don’t have a same sex relationship? Doesn’t make them less valid or an important part of the community.

    >Since then, the broad support that made marriage equality possible has grown more vulnerable. This is in part because a key message behind it — that being gay is not a choice — is being undermined by those who argue that same-sex orientation is better thought of as a part of a wider rebellion against social norms.

Yeah, blame the activists, not the fucking Christian conservatives running the Republican party who call us pedophiles and whatnot.

FYI, it is those “queer and subversive” activists at the forefront of the litigation against Trump admin and its worst impulses. It isn’t Scott Besant or Peter Thiel fighting the ban on healthcare for trans youth, it is those uppity NYC queers who strong-armed AG Jones and Mamdani into supporting gender care for trans youth.

After seeing this was a NYT opinion piece, I was half expecting a “Why do leftists think they own the gays” style article.
