Submission statement: in addition to the sheer irony, the author noticed many of the articles in the fake news site he found have a clear pro-China narrative.

He raises the possibility this site may be a part of a Chinese psyop campaign, and (my speculation) there may well be more. And leaving aside whether this particular site is a Chinese psyop or not, AI technology has made sites like this very cheap to deploy.
