Dr. John Harvey Kellogg—the famous physician, eugenicist, and co-creator of corn flakes—promoted circumcision in the late 1800s as a gruesome, pseudoscientific method to prevent children from masturbating. He advocated performing the surgery without anesthesia so the child would associate their genitals with intense pain
