There were articles reporting this from other intelligence sources, but this time the president of Lithuania is directly confirming that intelligence suggests that Russia is preparing a small scale attack or provocation against Poland or the Baltic states.
The attack would likely be kinetic in nature, limited in scope, targeting critical infrastructure.
The small scope of the attack is intentionally designed to test NATO unity – it would be undeniably an attack, however likely “small” enough that leaders of western nations would err on the side of an underreaction – atleast that’s the hope of Russia.
With undeniable rise of more russia-sympathetic forces in many parts of Europe, and the isolationist, anti-european attitudes in the US, this could become a serious issue for NATO unity.

Putin likely sees something that he can sell as victory in Ukraine as the only way to prevent his loss of power. As that possibility grows more remote, he’s going to take on higher risk strategies.
