Pakistan refuses to take in a grooming gang leader whose British citizenship was stripped after his conviction in 2013. As the man moved to the UK when he was 13 years old, Pakistan alleges that the events are an internal matter of the UK and they bear no responsibility. They are, however, open to taking him in if Britain also deports two political dissidents to Pakistan.
Being released after just 14 years (even on supervision) is crazy. I think the US prison system goes too far in the other direction, but someone with multiple convictions of rape against minors should die in prison in most cases.
I guess age may have been a factor here — in the US, there’s a separate argument about [releasing almost every senior inmate](https://www.nytimes.com/2025/09/08/opinion/aging-prisoners-prison-population.html) that I’m sympathetic to.
If we ignore the demand to hand over the dissidents, I unironically believe this is the correct way. He’s a British citizens, equal treatment means equal treatment. If they’re afraid they should’ve passed stricter laws for these cases
