The post shows the screenshots of the two articles published in The Economist.

The one on the left was published in 2013 saying that climate change was not happening as fast and scientists overestimated the pace. Many climate sceptics and deniers praised the article for agreeing with what they had been saying for so long. However, it drew widespread criticism from climate scientists for failing to accurately interpret and report the state and understanding of climate science. They said that one should not read too much into year-to-year fluctuations for a long-term problem. The threat was existential and one should address it without any delay.

The second article the right published recently (July 2026) acknowledges that things are happening must faster than what even many climate scientists anticipated. It truly highlights a climate alarmist perspective.

Such change in reporting perspective highlights a key issue in addressing climate change. Climate change unfolds over geological not human time scale. By the time mainstream media and public realize how serious the threats are, it might already to be too late.

I don’t understand why you think this is some kind of gotcha. Climate science evolves with time. Sometimes estimates are adjusted down, sometimes up.

These articles barely touch on the questions of how serious or consequential climate change is – they just focus on the science of trying to modeling climate change.
