If you don’t know what I’m referring to, this video gives a pretty quick comedic rundown of the situation: https://youtu.be/k6IbNsWABOs?is=xq5WHBahWkNgENOL

Anyways, with Nolan’s version of the odyssey, he introduces this theme of knowledge (odysseus and his intellect) leading to the development of new ideas (the Trojan horse) which ultimately break the natural law (of Zeus), and lead to the collapse or fear of collapse of civilization at the hands of the sea people. However, it is revealed at the end of the movie that the sea people rumors were actually created from the army which odessyus was apart of, and that his own intellect led to the creation of a tactic which disregards all honor and godly laws of the time to bring about a new age of civilization.

I feel like this theme transfers over to the ideas covered in the linked video, where the narrative of a foreign ‘alien’ invasion keeps getting pushed and talked about, while the true ‘aliens’ are really just the advancement of artificial intelligence that may soon bring a new age of humanity. Maybe I’m just overreaching, but I found it pretty strange that this movie came out with these themes at such a time as this.

I haven’t seen the movie yet, but there’s something in the air right now. It’s harder than ever to know what’s true. Or to sift through the lies and exaggerations to find the truth. People can drive themselves mad trying, and so a lot of people are just comfortable accepting whatever the news or their friends and family tell them.

So it follows that this atmosphere of not knowing what’s true will be filling your mind, even subconsciously, while consuming media. You’ll end up interpreting films, music or whatever it may be as being in some way thematically relevant.

I was listening to Fugazi’s End Hits album. In the song Foreman’s Dog, Ian Mackaye shouts the lines

    “Loss of concentration

    Loss of obvious

    It’s a stock set-up

    Laws of stimulation

    Signed anonymous

    It’s just a stock set-up

How did it come to this

    Huh, huh

    How did it come

    Come to this

    How did it come

    To mean nothing but this?”

It feels more relevant today than it probably did in 1997 when the album came out. The line “No CIA” in “No Suprise” too.

The video game Metal Gear Solid 2 has a conversation take place between the player character and an AI, towards the end of the game, that also feels incredibly relevant today. And that came out just around 9/11.

I like that guy’s YouTube channel. I think he sometimes gets a little lost in the weeds, but that’s fitting of the era we live in. He’s also touched on Saturn cult stuff, which is a rabbit hole I went down for a while. I found myself needing to take a break.
