Morocco’s new road through Western Sahara renamed “Donald Trump Highway” – Trump thanks the King on social media

>The Tiznit-Dakhla high-speed road has now been named the “Donald Trump Highway.” In response to this decision, U.S. President Donald Trump posted a message of thanks to King Mohammed VI on his social media platform, Truth Social.

>>“Thank you to His Majesty Mohammed VI, the highly respected King of Morocco. What an immense honor! I hope to have the opportunity one day—and I hope very soon—to travel the entire length of this magnificent highway,”

>wrote the U.S. president. The post included a video explaining the scope of this infrastructure project, its purpose, and its technical specifications under the title “Donald J. Trump Highway: The Road to Peace and Prosperity.”

>This 1,055-kilometer highway is one of the largest road projects ever undertaken in Morocco. Built to international standards, it represents a total investment estimated at between 9 and 10 billion dirhams. It will be put into service in phases, with the final section set to open in January 2025, connecting Tiznit to Dakhla via Guelmim and Laâyoune, among other cities.

>The project is part of the New Development Model for the Southern Provinces, launched in 2015 to mark the 40th anniversary of the Green March. Its goal is to strengthen transportation infrastructure in order to improve connectivity between the north and south of the Kingdom and to support economic development in this part of the country.

>The project includes 16 major engineering structures that meet international technical standards. In particular, they have proven their resilience during the recent heavy rainfall in the southern provinces.

>The project also includes the construction of the Kingdom’s longest bridge, considered one of the cornerstones of this highway corridor. It incorporates facilities for travelers, including modern rest areas as well as spaces dedicated to the unloading and marketing of seafood—a strategic sector for the southern Atlantic provinces.

>The expressway consists of three main sections. The first is the Laâyoune-Dakhla section, approximately 500 kilometers long, where work to reinforce and widen National Highway No. 1 was completed several years ago at a cost of nearly one billion dirhams.

>The second section connects Guelmim to Laâyoune over a distance of 436 kilometers. Its construction required an investment of nearly 5 billion dirhams, largely due to the construction of numerous bridges spanning major wadis.

>The third segment connects Tiznit to Guelmim over a distance of 114 kilometers. Completed in late 2024, it was opened to traffic on January 10, 2025, following the completion of road improvements and signage.

>The expressway facilitates the transport of goods between the various cities it passes through and improves access to the Saharan regions. The service infrastructure developed along the route is also intended to support local economic activities, particularly those related to fishing.

>It also helps reduce traffic accidents by improving traffic flow and modernizing road markings and signage along the entire route between Tiznit and Dakhla.

>Designed as a key infrastructure project, it is set to support the economic and logistical development of the southern provinces, while preparing for future needs generated by major projects in the region, notably the Dakhla Atlantique port.

Can someone familiar with the topic explain the lose condition for Morocco to me? Seems inevitable to me that they’ll be able to extract the resources in Western Sahara and that western recognition will then follow.

I’ve never seen a conflict end so unceremoniously.

Its genuinely pathetic how well such blatant ass kissing works on Trump.
