When a christian dies, their soul (instead of going where it would have gone without christianity) gets sucked up into that orb on top of the nearest spire and powers/nourishes the angels or the christian god.

In Christianity the soul doesn’t go anywhere when you die. At the end of the world God calls everyone to judgement, but souls don’t dork around in the physical world till that happens. And speaking plainly, gnostic dualism was a 200AD addition to Christian teachings, and runs counter to the examples of humans ascending to heaven in the bible, as all did so bodily. It’s more similar to Orphic mystery beliefs than anything biblical.
All that ball is, is the world part of a globus cruciger, a symbol saying that the Christian god is the ruler of the world, a fairly normal transformation of Roman art that frequently depicted gods in relationship to an orb that represented the world or universe.
