Almost 950 million in global box office in a weekend, when most of the world is struggling with inflation and the war in Iran shutting down the Hormuz – Asia is the worst hit with energy rations – but they all found 500 million to see Spiderman.
The underlying theme here is that money is being moved from offshore assets to onshore to maybe accelerate missile production and more in underground city infrastructure.
Just read 5 articles last week about how the Pentagon is facing depleted missile reserves and there is no avenue left to take from the taxpayer right now. So there has to be another funding source.
All these numbers are fake. I see zero excitement here in NYC/Connecticut where people are like – oh yeah, I can't wait to see spiderman. They were talking about Obsession and Backrooms.
This will finish at 2.5 billion box office. It's a small amount but there will be more "RECORD" box office movies this year.

You may be right, but this is not just limited to movies. Like when they spent $90M to paint a fountain in DC, and the paint immediately peeled off.
That’s the whole bread and circus thing. Even in the most dire times, your average person just wants a way to survive and entertainment. Movies are still a fairly affordable fun way to spend an evening and a great way to feel like you are apart of a community event.
Inflation? It went back to normal rates about 3 years ago.
ill be honest i havent been to the movie theater since 2012… I just cant stand people and i hate sitting for 2 hours lol.
I’m usually a huge believer in distrustful media and government but I went and saw this and I never go to the damn movies.
It was actually a good movie. I could see it making close to a billion for opening.
