Headline makes it sound worse than it was, 2 crew and 2 pilots who were in an overwhelmed airspace and did not know where they were prior to their GPS being jammed so they hit a mountain.
GPS jamming was caused by an experimental US Army laser weapon that was being tested at a nearby base, other pilots in the vicinity also reported GPS malfunctions but other than that they had no issues with instrumentation.
Here is a short sequence of events from the investigation (the crash happened in May)
Pilots were told that the military would be conducting GPS jamming tests in the area
Pilots reported their GPS was jammed shortly after takeoff
ATC told the military to temporarily disable the jammers to which they complied, eventually the pilots were able to correct their course and once they had a visual on their destination runway the military got the go-ahead to resume GPS jam tests
As the pilots were descending to land they hit a mountain, now I’m not sure how they could see the runway but not a giant mountain in front of them but that is what happened

The GPS jamming as certainly a factor, however it was the pilots decision to cancel IFR clearance and fly a visual approach after reportedly having visual contact with the airport, which was not true due to their being a mountain in the way, which they would soon crash into.
Why the military needs to jam GPS is beyond me, but the military are not to blame for this and did not bring it down.
