A governmental report on antisemitism in Canadian post-secondary institutions finds that the issue of antisemitism is a systemic issue that typically goes unaddressed by university and college administrations. The report is the first of two reports titled *Campus Antisemitism and Student Experiences*, with the first one looking at the experiences felt by those that have faced or observed antisemitic incidents in post-secondary institutions. The methodology of the first report is by combining two surveys of 900 Jewish students with 775 non-Jewish students on their experiences with antisemitism on campus or in the classrooms.
The report finds that 95.7% of Jewish students either experienced or witnessed an antisemitic incident in the whole of 2025. Of these antisemitic incidents 18% were perpetrated by faculty members, with another 7% involving teaching assistants. The anecdotes provided by the CBC are illuminating enough on the nature of these incidents:
>One student, who has not been named in the report, said a “professor wrote that we should kill all Zionists, that she’s worked with them and sees how evil they are.”
>Another student reported a professor saying “Hitler was a hero” while another said a professor told them “Jews belong in Poland and need to go back.”
>Jewish students also reported numerous instances of faculty bias, one-sided accounts of complex issues and teaching assistants pressuring students whose work they were marking to attend pro-Palestinian demonstrations.
>Another student said a women and gender studies professor gave her zero per cent on an assignment because it addressed sexual assaults by Hamas on Jews during the Oct. 7, 2023, attack.
The larger issue is the inaction of university administrations in addressing these antisemitic incidents. The report says that a third of the students surveyed reported these incidents, but 63% of them say they were dissatisfied with how it was handled. The result of this inaction has left 70% of Jewish students saying universities do not take their complaints seriously, while 68% said that they campus life is neither safe or inclusive for Jewish students.
