If we are living in a matrix/false digital reality, our physical bodies are not being used for energy. Most likely, we are all nodes powering a massive organic computer.

In the movie The Matrix, humans are grown in pods and used as a bio-electric power source for AI. The most likely we-are-living-in-a-matrix scenario, though, is that living human brains are being used as nodes in a giant biological processor.

For human brains to be used for computation, their minds need to be kept stable. A false digital reality would be used to ground our minds and keep us sane. Human computation allows for individualized specialties, too. Artistic minds are used for art, scientific minds are used for science. None of our talents are wasted.

If the transhumanist elites (reptilians) have their way, and they are able to digitally escape this world, their digital heaven won’t be powered by artificial intelligence. It will be powered by organic human processing units. Essentially, trillions of imprisoned human brains powering a digital paradise that they are never allowed to experience.
