And some people, despite the proven health outcomes, will still oppose ULEZ even harder.

Submission statement: ULEZ (ultra low emission zones) in London are zones in which vehicles that do not meet certain emissions standards must pay a daily charge to drive. Its aim is to encourage cleaner vehicles and improve air quality. It seems to have led to improved lung capacity among children in London, making them comparable with those of children in other parts of the country. There are obviously confounding variables – COVID decreased air pollution to near zero and near-permanently decreased traffic as more people work remotely. The relevance to this sub should be obvious – this was a policy driven by the government that has had very positive outcomes on health that a lot of cities could learn from, despite the controversy it caused.
