Carney asks for end to US alcohol ban, province leader says, as trade deal nears
SS: Canada has been seeking a deal in order to reduce American tariffs on Canadian steel, cars, lumber, and aluminum. Carney is reportedly asking provinces to abandon its boycott on Canadian alcohol in order to finalize a deal.
The submission statement here isn’t really wrong, but isn’t how I’d phrase it.
Before the Smoot Hawley Tariff announcement, it seemed like Canada was more or less ready to just wait out Trump’s tariffs. The impression I got was that the US was seeking a way to force to reintroduction of booze onto Canadian shelves and explicitly capitulate to some level of tariff (which seems to ultimately be what’s happened)

Carney concedes yet again.
