Kyle Odom was a former Marine, biochemistry grad from the University of Idaho, and had been accepted into a genetics program at Baylor. By all accounts he was extremely sharp. In 2016 he shot Pastor Tim Remington outside The Altar Church in Coeur d’Alene because he believed Remington was a shapeshifting amphibian-humanoid from Mars (or controlled by them) that had been tormenting him. He laid it all out in a long manifesto. I’m aware it reads like a schizophrenic wrote it, and I agree.

He fired 12 rounds from a .45 hollow point and emptied the magazine. Six of them hit Remington. In the manifesto and a Facebook post he made while on the run, Odom himself said he shot him 12 times and there was no way any human could have survived that.
Those six should have been well beyond lethal. .45 hollow points are designed to expand on impact, dump their energy fast, and tear big wound channels. They hit him in the back near the spine, shattered his right arm and shoulder, collapsed a lung, went through the pelvis and colon, and one punched into the skull but stopped just short of the brain. He lost most of his blood volume. That kind of trauma from multiple expanding rounds at close range is the sort of thing people usually don’t walk away from.He still got out of the hospital in under a month, later had a stroke, spent months with a colostomy bag, and was back preaching within about four months (still in a wheelchair at first). Some fragments stayed in him
Reports just say six hit him. They don’t break down what happened to the rest in any detailed way that’s been released. The claims you see online about specific recovered bullets come from Remington’s wife Cindy in later interviews. She said a fully mushroomed one was found on the pavement between them, one went through the jacket and vest but stopped at the shirt on his back, and one was found in the front left breast pocket of his suit coat over the heart. Those details only show up in the family’s accounts. Nothing public has listed them out. Cindy has been clear that she sees all of this as divine intervention. In her view God stopped the rounds that would have killed him and left the recovered mushroomed bullets as physical proof that something intervened.
Polarity did a long livestream going through the whole manifesto and the case:

SS Odom fired 12 rounds. Six hit Remington. Of the other six, reports only confirm they did not strike him. The more specific claims come from his wife Cindy: one fully mushroomed bullet found on the pavement between them, one that went through the jacket and vest but stopped at the shirt on his back, and one recovered from the front left breast pocket over the heart. She has described these as divine intervention. Those three details appear only in the family’s later accounts. No public police or forensic document has listed them.
He also made a list of politicians he thought were reptilians… I looked them up their pictures and ngl some really do look sus…

This was indeed a bizarre story/case
I think it’s also important to point out that Kyle Odom served 10 years and is currently released on parole.
Kyle took full responsibility for his actions and apologized to the pastor. He attributed it to hallucinations that have stopped since he started medication.
