For those claiming the US meddling in the Middle East led to them hating and terrorizing us, I think many don’t remember this. This is Iran in the 60’s and 70’s before the IRGC took over. They were allies of the west. The whole region could have had this, but they gave it up. I’m sure many there still do want this. So why did they give it up? It wasn’t US meddling.
And let us not forget where the term “Leatherneck” comes from. Before we were even fully a country, before we even had time to meddle in anyone’s affairs, our ships were being boarded and our people killed, their necks cut by swords curved and designed to slice necks. So the sailors started wearing leather armor around their necks to protect themselves from these pirates and murderers. When Thomas Jefferson asked their ambassador why they did it, he explained what the ambassador said:

Stop buying the lie that our meddling caused all this.
Do we meddle? Yeah, sometimes it took out evil people, sometimes it ended up going sideways and helped really really bad people. That doesn’t explain what is happening.
