Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) commander Mazloum Abdi on Tuesday announced the formal dissolution of the SDF and the Kurdish-led Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES), confirming that their forces and institutions would be integrated into the Syrian state.

Submission statement: probably the most key development in Syria since the fall of Assad, the area formerly known as Rojava has been integrated into the central Syrian state. The SDF had been a key player in the region but also had its fair set of issues, and the January offensive showed that. The successful integration of Rojava shows the capacity of Syria to grow as a diverse state as many are still wary of the Syrian government due to its jihadist roots. This will influence both the future of Syria and the region as a whole as Syria slowly rebuilds from the ashes of its civil war. Syria continues being a bright spot with developments like this
I remember when the Syrian civil war maps were basically entirely red and yellow with only a couple blobs of green. Now it’s pretty much all green (Suwayda and Israeli-occupied areas notwithstanding).
