Hypothetically, if an extinction level asteroid or mudflood event was undeniable for earth, and the best option was to bunker 5 million of humankind's most probable to survive/rebuild/repopulate after the collapse..
Wouldn't the stress levels surrounding data centers make more sense? They could essentially be cover ups for bunker construction and infrastructure. Of course there will be server rooms and facilities but they're just for testing until the system that's being duplicated underground is live.
If they were honest, people would be panicking about more than water and electricity bill increases. Or fan noise.
Then the chance of our species survival drops drastically.

There’s too many people working on them. I dont doubt that there are secret projects, but I dont think we can say at a mass scale that data centers are just cover.

Too much power. Cooling. Fiber. All of that is underground.
It wasn’t no secret about billionaires building bunkers or already having D.U.M.Bs all over so idk why they would be to hide making more. They have a lot of them already.
there are bunkers under them, as well as Home Depot, Walmart, and other big stores with nothing bolted down.
