Kinda funny that NYC requires licensing while, just across the boarder, NJ does not which gives those drivers an advantage since they can cross over to the city for work.
It makes sense that occupational licensing doesn’t make much of a difference, people have a lot of hurtles to jump through to even get a drivers license. Why add more? Plus, Uber already requires there drivers to ensure they vehicles are safe and reliable, the government doesn’t need to pile on if it’s unhelpful.
There’s a [US GAO]( https://www.gao.gov/products/gao-24-107093) paper about how fragmented the regulatory landscape is, and this widespread “patchwork” of safety requirements isn’t helpful.
