  1. 1. Summary

Korea records another record increase in births

    2. How is this related to the sub

    (1) Demographic crisis: Economic incentive policy focusing on supporting housing, extended parental leave, daycare and the healthcare of the young married couples found to be effective in boosting birth rate despite western criticism that is reinforcing patriarchy.

    3. My opinion

Another win for Korean bureaucracy. They are good at hitting target number. I think cracking down on corporate practice of firing married or pregnant women is one of key improvement. Also, paying fathers to have parental leaves to help mothers is helping, too. I know there is a western criticism that this is reinforcing gender norms & patriarchy and treating women as breeding stock…i cannot deny that bureaucrats’ idea is quite decent.
