Love how they mention “healthcare workers” as requiring significant migration. Looks like 27% of doctors in the state are foreign born, which on the face of it would support that. However this shortage is “manufactured” as Germany caps how many doctors it trains, so the course applications are heavily oversubscriped and they refuse to train many capable candidates. Increase the med school places then the shortage will go away.
As Jimmy Carr mentioned this policy of foreign recruitment also hurts the countries they come from. They don’t come because everyone is “better” in their (usually) 3rd world countries. They come for more money. Results in less doctors in their home country and worse healthcare, so they suffer too!
