Submission statement: big test for the Greens as to whether they can beat the Burnham Bounce. It would be embarrassing if Polanski cannot win. He’s the GP leader and the seat is probably one of the most lefty seats in the country (diverse, young, affluent, gentrified, very few Reform or Tories) and the seat is held by the incumbent government. And it’s a test to see if the centre left can see of the challenge of the populist left vibes-based politics.

As someone, who doesn’t follow British politics that closely, how much does local politics matter for these out of normal electoral season seats? From the outside, it seems that the last two with Burnham and Farage were all about national politics.

I would also add I think it’s interesting the candidate chosen by Labour. She’s got a lot of positive coverage and support from across the spectrum when Reform party attacked her for being a child refugee. This identity politics is all that Zak Polanski has got really so it will make it harder for him or the Greens to attack her. I think it is now harder for him to win vs if Labour had picked just some middle aged white guy with a good CV.
