Japanese semiconductor component maker Screen to expand into India, eyeing growing industry

Submission Statement: Japan's Screen Holdings aims to start supplying its semiconductor-cleaning equipment to India as early as next summer, President Masato Goto told Nikkei, as the company capitalizes on efforts to grow the nation's chip industry.

Engineers will be assigned to India to maintain the equipment. In addition to personnel from Japan, Screen intends to hire locally, providing training at facilities in Japan and Taiwan.

Screen holds a roughly 40% share of the global market for semiconductor-cleaning equipment and has been enjoying a boost from investment in production of high-bandwidth memory and advanced logic chips for artificial intelligence servers. It forecasts sales to rise 23% to 743 billion yen ($4.74 billion) for the fiscal year ending March 2027, with net profit seen growing 25% to 115 billion yen.

Japanese semiconductor companies are expanding across India’s chip value chain, with ROHM commiting to fabrication and packaging with Tata, Renesas expanding 3nm design and packaging operations within India, and semiconductor supply chain vendors like Fujifilm and Tokyo Electron expanding their footprint within India.
